The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $1.8 billion contract to continue long-lead material procurement for the Virginia-class Block VI submarines. This follows earlier multi-billion-dollar agreements in 2023 and 2024 aimed at advancing construction and securing critical components for the fleet.
The company also entered a separate agreement in June to provide lead yard services and enhance supplier and component development efforts. The work will be distributed across facilities in California and other U.S. locations, with completion scheduled by late 2035. General Dynamics Electric Boat will carry out the program in alignment with the U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command.
