Saab has offered its SLIM (Lightweight Integrated Mast) system to the Indian Navy as a modern upgrade for warship sensor architecture. The concept replaces multiple separate sensor installations with one integrated composite mast. This reduces clutter on the ship’s superstructure, improves stealth, and simplifies installation. Built using lightweight carbon-fiber materials inspired by Visby-class stealth corvettes, SLIM reduces ship top weight and enhances stability. It also lowers radar detectability by minimizing reflective surfaces. Saab’s approach includes full system responsibility, ensuring radar, communication, and electronic warfare systems operate without interference. The modular design allows customization for different ship types and supports upgrades to existing fleets. Already used in European navies, SLIM demonstrates improved sensor coordination and operational efficiency, making it suitable for India’s future network-centric naval platforms.
