Rheinmetall has received a substantial new order from Germany for 30mm ammunition to equip Puma infantry fighting vehicles, as Berlin continues to strengthen its mechanized forces. The order, worth hundreds of millions of euros, is part of a long-term framework agreement signed in late 2022 for the supply of 30mm×173 rounds.

The updated contract extends through 2029 and expands both delivery quantities and overall contract value, with Rheinmetall expected to provide several hundred thousand rounds over the coming years. According to estimates, the total value of the ammunition program could reach approximately €1 billion, with portions of the order already fulfilled.

The Puma IFV’s MK30-2/ABM cannon supports airburst and programmable ammunition, allowing crews to engage targets at ranges of more than 2 kilometers. Rheinmetall’s KE-TF munition enhances the vehicle’s effectiveness against lightly armored threats and drones, reflecting evolving battlefield requirements.

This ammunition procurement aligns with Germany’s broader efforts to modernize and expand its Puma fleet. In parallel, Berlin has approved advanced training solutions, including Rheinmetall’s AGSP modular simulator, and recently committed to acquiring 200 additional Puma vehicles, underscoring a sustained investment in armored combat capability.
