Bell Textron has completed the upgrade and handover of a modernized Bell 212 utility helicopter to the Royal Thai Navy, providing a significant boost to the service’s operational capabilities. The life extension work, performed at Bell’s Asia Service Center in Singapore, included enhancements to the aircraft’s fuel system, avionics, exterior finish, and other components aimed at improving safety, efficiency, and mission readiness.
The milestone delivery was formally recognized at a defense exhibition in Bangkok, where Bell presented a custom commemorative plaque to the Royal Thai Navy and Royal Airport Service. The upgrade underscores Thailand’s ongoing commitment to extending the lifespan of its legacy rotorcraft while maintaining operational reliability across diverse maritime and land-based missions.
First launched in 1968, the Bell 212 became one of Bell’s most widely adopted medium-lift helicopters, with almost 900 units produced across 30 years. The helicopter features a 57-foot airframe, a 48-foot rotor span, seating for 14 passengers, and a two-pilot crew. Powered by an 1,800-horsepower engine, it delivers speeds of 120 knots, a range of 230 nautical miles, and a 17,400-foot service ceiling. The platform remains in active service with 20 militaries worldwide, supporting transport, logistics, training, and humanitarian missions due to its proven reliability and versatile design.
