As part of a €2-billion contract signed in late 2022, MBDA has delivered the first Aster air defense missiles to Italy, ahead of the original 2026 timeline. France is also a major recipient, with both nations placing a combined order for 700 units.

This early delivery was made possible by fast-tracked production led by the Eurosam consortium, addressing increased European defense urgency. A follow-up order for 218 more missiles was placed by Italy, France, and the UK earlier this year.

The deal involves several missile types: Aster 30 B1 NT, Aster 30 B1, Aster 30 B, and Aster 15. The NT version, with enhanced maneuverability, is intended for next-gen SAMP/T NG systems and naval platforms like Horizon-class frigates.

The Aster missile series is a cornerstone of European air defense, providing protection from 30 to 150 kilometers. It supports the SAMP/T and PAAMS systems in use by France, Italy, and the UK, ensuring robust defense against airborne and missile threats.
