The US Navy has increased Northrop Grumman’s contract for FMU-139D/B electronic bomb fuzes by nearly $97 million, bringing the agreement’s maximum value to about $462.4 million. The contract modification supports continued production and the supply of fuze systems, accessory kits, trainer units, power cables and associated equipment for the Navy, Air Force and foreign military sales customers. Production takes place at Northrop Grumman’s Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center, West Virginia, a government-owned facility where the company delivered its 200,000th FMU-139D/B unit earlier in 2026. Investments in automation and advanced manufacturing have increased the facility’s annual production capacity to as many as 85,000 units, helping improve efficiency and meet demand from US and allied forces. The FMU-139D/B is an electronic fuze that controls the timing and functioning of air-delivered munitions and is compatible with multiple aircraft and weapon systems. As fuzes determine when a munition carries out its intended function, their reliability and consistent availability remain essential to maintaining operational readiness across air-launched weapon inventories.
