Kongsberg has signed a new 1.1-billion-Norwegian-krona agreement, valued at roughly $118 million, with General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada for the supply of Protector RS4 remote weapon stations to the Canadian Army.The systems will be integrated with Canada’s Armoured Combat Support Vehicle program, providing vehicle crews with remotely operated firepower while helping keep personnel inside the protected vehicle compartment. The latest contract follows a previous 500-million-krona order placed in 2020.Canada’s ACSV program initially covered 360 vehicles and was subsequently increased by an additional 190 units. Kongsberg has not disclosed how many RS4 stations will be delivered under the new agreement or when deliveries are expected to begin.Protector RS4 is a modular remote weapon station capable of supporting several weapon types. Depending on configuration, it can accommodate small- and medium-caliber weapons, coaxial armament, and anti-tank guided missiles.A key feature is its stabilized 2+2-axis Detached Line of Sight architecture. By allowing the sensor and sighting system to track targets independently of weapon movement, the design is intended to support accurate engagements while the host vehicle is moving.The RS4 is not restricted to a single vehicle platform. Its platform-independent architecture allows it to be installed on different land or maritime systems. Integrated electro-optical sensors and cameras provide day-and-night observation and targeting functions.The station has a configuration-dependent weight of approximately 135-190 kilograms and a height ranging from 505 to 765 millimeters, excluding ammunition and weapons.
