MBDA has successfully integrated the latest Mistral 3 air-defense missile into the French Armed Forces’ Tigre Mk2 attack helicopter, significantly enhancing its ability to counter modern aerial threats, particularly unmanned aerial systems. The integration required software enhancements and technical modifications that allow the helicopter to employ the advanced fire-and-forget missile while retaining compatibility with its existing weapon architecture. Featuring an imaging infrared seeker, improved resistance against countermeasures, and an engagement range of up to 8 kilometers, the Mistral 3 offers superior target acquisition and interception performance. The missile can engage helicopters, aircraft, drones, and other low-flying threats while operating from airborne, land-based, or naval launch platforms. Combined with the Tigre Mk2’s upgraded avionics, ballistic protection, secure navigation systems, and multi-role weapons suite, the integration strengthens France’s battlefield air-defense capability and improves operational flexibility in high-threat environments.
