Astra MkIII is being developed as an advanced indigenous very-long-range air-to-air missile incorporating next-generation propulsion and guidance technologies. Designed to engage aerial targets at significantly greater distances while maintaining high terminal energy, the missile will strengthen India’s ability to achieve air superiority in future high-intensity conflicts. The program also accelerates domestic expertise in advanced missile propulsion, precision guidance, seeker technologies, and network-enabled engagement systems. Once operational, Astra MkIII will become a critical component of India’s layered air combat strategy and future indigenous missile ecosystem.
