South Korea is investing nearly 50 billion won to establish a national AI defense robotics innovation cluster that will accelerate the development, testing, validation, and commercialization of next-generation autonomous military systems. Led through collaboration between government agencies, industry partners, academia, and the armed forces, the initiative will establish dedicated research centers, technology demonstration facilities, and a large-scale testing ground where AI-enabled robotic systems can undergo operational evaluation before military deployment. Scheduled to continue through 2031, the project is expected to strengthen the country’s domestic defense industrial base while supporting advanced military robotics, autonomous vehicles, intelligent surveillance systems, and AI-assisted battlefield technologies. The investment aligns with South Korea’s broader strategy to expand indigenous defense innovation and strengthen the international competitiveness of its rapidly growing defense sector.
