Saab has secured a major contract from Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) to provide advanced combat management systems, radar technology, sensors, and composite structures for four MEKO A-200 DEU frigates being built for the German Navy. Scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2032, the vessels will feature Saab’s 9LV Combat System, Fire Control System, Sea Giraffe 4A and Sea Giraffe 1X radar suites, together with advanced passive sensor technologies. Designed to strengthen anti-submarine warfare and multi-mission naval operations, the frigates will offer extended operational range, high-speed performance, and the ability to deploy helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, and modular mission payloads. The procurement reflects Germany’s broader naval modernization strategy following the cancellation of the F126 program and highlights the growing importance of integrated sensor networks, digital combat management, and scalable warship designs for future maritime operations.
