Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense has confirmed plans to procure 1,320 domestically developed Kuai Chi attack USVs within a five-year period. The decision underscores Taipei’s emphasis on homegrown solutions to strengthen its maritime defense strategy.

According to reports, the USVs will be produced and deployed in three separate batches. Each batch will be assigned to a different command, including the Navy’s Coastal Combat Command, the Marine Corps, and the Army Special Operations Command, ensuring wide operational coverage.

The Naval Command Headquarters has been tasked with overseeing procurement and supervising large-scale production. This central authority will coordinate logistics, training, and integration across Taiwan’s armed forces.

The Kuai Chi program reflects Taiwan’s growing reliance on autonomous surface vessels as cost-effective and versatile tools to counter evolving regional threats.
