During the International Paris Airshow at Le Bourget, Leonardo and Baykar Technologies announced the creation of LBA Systems, a joint venture dedicated to the development of unmanned aerial technologies. The two companies had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Rome in March 2025. Leonardo and Baykar will each hold a 50% stake in the new entity, which will be headquartered and operated in Italy.
The joint venture will harness both companies’ strengths to cover the entire lifecycle of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), including design, production, and ongoing support. Baykar will lead the development of sophisticated unmanned platforms, while Leonardo will supply state-of-the-art electronics, mission systems, and capabilities such as Manned-Unmanned Teaming and autonomous swarming.
Beyond their initial focus, Leonardo and Baykar also intend to explore additional collaborative opportunities across commercial ventures, joint platform initiatives, and multi-domain digital ecosystems, aiming to capture market opportunities across Europe and worldwide.
