The British Army has taken delivery of the first vehicles from the second batch of Jackal 3 Extenda High Mobility Transporters, as Babcock advances production at its Plymouth manufacturing facility. The rollout supports the UK Ministry of Defence’s efforts to restore fleet capacity after a number of Jackal vehicles were donated to Ukraine as part of military assistance following Russia’s invasion.
The second production tranche, contracted in 2024, includes the delivery of up to 53 vehicles, building on an initial order placed in 2023 for 70 Jackal 3 platforms. Deliveries from the first batch are on track for completion before year-end, while Babcock continues to work alongside Supacat, the vehicle’s original designer, to ensure consistent production and integration.
Under the wider program framework, the British Army holds an option to acquire up to 240 additional Jackal 3 systems, providing long-term flexibility for force expansion and modernization. The Jackal vehicle line has been a cornerstone of British Army mobility since its introduction in the early 2000s, supporting high-speed assault missions, reconnaissance tasks, and armed convoy protection.
The Jackal 3 E offers enhanced capability through a modular design, increased payload, and the ability to operate in 4×4 or 6×6 drive configurations. Operated by a three-soldier crew, the vehicle is typically armed with a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun or automatic grenade launcher, complemented by a 7.62 mm machine gun. Its 185 hp diesel engine enables a top speed of 130 km/h and a range of 800 km, reinforcing its role as a fast and flexible battlefield mobility platform.
