Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) has secured a 1-billion NOK ($99 million) contract from Norway’s defense procurement authority to supply new hardware and upgrades for the NASAMS air defense system. The enhancement program will boost system resilience, command efficiency, and communication reliability across Norway’s growing NASAMS network.
The contract includes delivery of state-of-the-art command posts, wheeled communication units, and upgraded radio systems that will integrate with four NASAMS batteries acquired since 2024. These batteries already feature advanced missile launchers and digitalized fire control centers, forming the backbone of Norway’s air defense shield.
One of the major updates will see the THOR Combat Net Radio replace the current VHF Multi Role Radio, providing greater data capacity, extended range, and superior encryption. The advanced radio technology will improve coordination among air defense elements, enabling faster and more secure tactical responses.
According to Kongsberg, the new command posts and communication nodes will deliver faster decision-making support, higher operational tempo, and improved system survivability. The modernization effort underscores Norway’s commitment to strengthening its homeland defense and NATO interoperability through advanced indigenous technology.
