Moog Inc., a leader in defense automation, has introduced the Lightweight Reconfigurable Integrated-weapons Platform (LW RIwP) at AUSA 2025, designed to meet emerging needs in short-range air defense for the US Army. Targeted at vehicles like the Infantry Squad Vehicle, LW RIwP offers substantial firepower and modular flexibility in a transportable package, with a key capability to be airlifted or sling-loaded for operational agility.

LW RIwP is capable of integrating a 30mm autocannon and multiple missile launchers, allowing tactical units to rapidly adapt to new missions or threats. The system’s increased ammunition capacity and advanced fire control ensure longer engagement periods and improved accuracy against both aerial and terrestrial targets. Its open, modular architecture permits integration of additional sensors and weapon systems as battlefield requirements evolve.

Compatibility with the Standard RIwP turret enables shared software, training, and maintenance, supporting Army efforts to lower costs and speed up new technology adoption. Moog’s technology, proven in combat-focused projects such as SGT Stout and M-LIDS, is validated as a reliable solution for defending against low, slow, small drones and helicopters.

Increment 4 of the M-SHORAD program, slated to be fielded around 2030, will create a multi-layered air defense network ranging from agile vehicle-mounted interceptors to large fixed-base systems. As other industry leaders push forward with new laser and missile solutions, Moog’s lightweight turret system sets a benchmark for combining firepower, mobility, and rapid reconfiguration in modern force protection
