In a move to strengthen its coastal defence fleet, Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has placed an order with Saab for 22 additional CB90 Next Generation combat boats, at a total contract value of approximately SEK 900 million.

This expanded order underscores Sweden’s commitment to maintaining a highly mobile, agile, and protected naval force amid evolving maritime security demands. Built at Saab’s Docksta shipyard, the CB90 NG is a modern iteration of the widely used combat boat series, featuring lightweight aluminium construction for speed and tactical flexibility.

The CB90 NG is engineered to rapidly deploy troops and mission-critical equipment, capable of navigating both shallow coastal zones and open waters with ease. Designed with modern combat environments in mind, the vessel includes advanced protection features such as polyethylene-based CBRN shielding and ballistic-resistant glass, offering a secure platform for personnel during high-risk operations.

Commenting on the development, Mats Wicksell, head of Saab’s Kockums division, noted that this order marks a key milestone in Sweden’s maritime force modernization and reflects continued confidence in Saab’s combat-proven platforms.
