South Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups has expanded its Defense Open Innovation Program to encourage greater participation from emerging technology companies developing solutions for military applications. Approximately fifty companies will be selected to collaborate with established defense firms and military organizations on proof-of-concept projects supported by government funding. Successful participants may receive additional financial assistance for advanced research, prototype development, commercialization, and operational testing. The initiative includes technical evaluations, collaboration planning, and direct engagement with defense organizations to accelerate technology transition into military service. The expanded program reflects South Korea’s long-term strategy to strengthen defense innovation by leveraging commercial technologies, supporting startup growth, and increasing collaboration across the national defense ecosystem.
