Lockheed Martin’s PZL Mielec facility has initiated assembly of Sikorsky S-70 Firehawk helicopters for Czechia, representing an important expansion of Europe’s specialized aerial emergency response capability. Derived from the proven Black Hawk platform, the Firehawk incorporates purpose-built firefighting equipment including a high-capacity external water tank, retractable snorkel, twin-engine propulsion, advanced avionics, and all-weather operational capability. Once operational, the helicopters will support Czech national emergency services while joining the European Union’s RescEU reserve fleet for multinational disaster response missions. The manufacturing effort involves collaboration between PZL Mielec, Czech aviation partner CLS, and United Rotorcraft, which will integrate mission equipment, conduct crew training, and provide long-term technical support. The project reflects Europe’s increasing emphasis on strengthening regional disaster preparedness through advanced aviation assets capable of responding rapidly to wildfires, floods, earthquakes, and other large-scale emergencies across multiple countries.
