Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall have launched a strategic partnership to establish Europe’s first dedicated production center for the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), significantly strengthening the continent’s long-range precision strike industrial base. The new manufacturing facility in Germany will support missile assembly, integration, testing, and distribution for European NATO members while reducing dependence on overseas production. ATACMS provides precision surface-to-surface strike capability against command centers, logistics hubs, air defense systems, and other high-value targets at ranges approaching 300 kilometers. Fully compatible with HIMARS and M270 rocket launchers already fielded across numerous European militaries, the missile has become a cornerstone of modern long-range fires doctrine. The partnership also supports broader production of GMLRS rockets, Hellfire missiles, JAGM precision weapons, and Patriot PAC-3 interceptors, creating one of Europe’s largest integrated missile manufacturing hubs. The initiative reflects NATO’s growing emphasis on expanding indigenous defense production capacity while ensuring sustained supply for both alliance members and partner nations facing high operational demand.
