The US Navy has expanded the Virginia-class Block VI submarine program with a $2.3-billion contract modification awarded to General Dynamics Electric Boat. The funding supports early manufacturing and long-lead procurement for the Navy’s next generation of nuclear-powered attack submarines. Designed for stealth, intelligence gathering, strike missions, and undersea dominance, the latest Block VI submarines will feature improved sonar systems, enhanced survivability, and expanded weapons capacity through the Virginia Payload Module. The program reflects Washington’s long-term focus on maintaining strategic maritime superiority.
