The US government has cleared a $163.4 million defense contract allowing Textron Systems to deliver 65 Commando Select armored vehicles to Ukraine, expanding the country’s ability to conduct protected and mobile ground operations. The vehicles are expected to improve survivability and maneuverability for Ukrainian forces operating in contested combat zones.
Awarded under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative via the Foreign Military Sales framework, the contract was issued by the Army Contracting Command at Detroit Arsenal. The three-year firm fixed-price agreement includes vehicle production, delivery, and a one-year package of spare parts to support sustainment and operational readiness.
Textron’s Commando Select vehicle, derived from its Mobile Strike Force Vehicle platform, is designed for rugged and austere environments. It offers enhanced ballistic protection and mobility, providing an advantage over legacy armored personnel carriers in modern battlefield conditions that demand rapid movement and increased crew safety.
The vehicle order aligns with continued US military assistance to Ukraine, which remains a key element of Washington’s defense policy. In recent years, the US has announced multiple large-scale aid packages, including $6 billion in late 2024, followed by an $800 million package in December 2025 and an additional $500 million allocation in January 2025. These initiatives include deliveries of munitions, air defense systems, drones, and equipment to support Ukrainian F-16 fighter operations, underscoring long-term US commitment to Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
