In Germany, KNDS has presented the second prototype of its upgraded Leopard 2A-RC 3.0 main battle tank, footage of which appeared on the Militär- und Landtechnik Klaus Schröder YouTube channel. This prototype, designated PT02, is the latest iteration aimed at enhancing firepower, protection, and mobility in the Leopard series.
The PT02 measures 7.95 meters in length (26 feet), 3.73 meters in width (12.24 feet), and 2.4 meters in height (7.87 feet). When fitted with its main gun, the overall length increases to 11.17 meters (36.65 feet), while the height with a periscope rises to 2.84 meters (9.32 feet)—giving the tank a formidable silhouette on the battlefield.
A notable engineering highlight is its 0.5-meter (1.64-foot) ground clearance, which allows the tank to traverse difficult landscapes and overcome obstacles without compromising stability or speed. This feature improves maneuverability in both urban combat and open terrain operations.
The unveiling of PT02 signals KNDS’s push toward redefining the Leopard 2 platform for future conflicts, blending cutting-edge technology with combat-proven design to maintain a competitive edge in armored warfare.
