Saab has finalized a 510-million SEK ($54 million) contract with the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) for the supply of Carl-Gustaf M4 anti-armor weapons, ammunition, and associated training equipment. Deliveries are expected to take place from 2026 through 2028 as part of Denmark’s ongoing infantry modernization effort.
The Carl-Gustaf system, which has been in Danish service since the 1970s, continues to play a vital role in its ground combat forces. The M4 version, adopted in 2022, is a lighter and more compact model — weighing less than 7 kilograms and measuring under 1 meter — providing superior maneuverability for urban and close-quarter missions.
Engineered for speed and adaptability, the M4 integrates advanced ergonomics, including customizable grips and a modular design that allows soldiers to mount optics and accessories. It is capable of firing multiple ammunition types, from anti-tank and anti-structure rounds to multi-role and illumination munitions, enhancing mission flexibility across various combat environments.
One of the M4’s major upgrades is its support for next-generation programmable and guided rounds, notably the HE 448 and GMM. These smart munitions allow operators to accurately strike targets beyond 2,500 meters, whether static or moving, delivering a combination of precision, range, and reduced collateral damage. The contract further reinforces Denmark’s long-standing partnership with Saab in advancing infantry weapon capabilities across NATO-aligned forces.
