In a move to bolster its defense industry, PGZ (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa) has partnered with BAE Systems to construct a 155mm artillery ammunition production facility in Poland. The partnership reflects Poland’s drive to expand domestic arms manufacturing and ensure a reliable supply of artillery rounds amid growing regional security demands.

BAE Systems will provide state-of-the-art production technology and technical support to PGZ under the project. According to officials, construction of the facility is scheduled to commence later this year, with operations expected to begin between 2027 and 2028.

The factory will replicate BAE’s automated production model, which has already demonstrated significant efficiency gains in the UK, boosting output of 155mm shells more than sixteen times. The ammunition produced will meet NATO standards and be fully compatible with widely used charges, fuzes, and primers.

Once fully operational, the Polish facility will be capable of producing up to 180,000 shells annually. These munitions will be deployed with Poland’s K9 and Krab self-propelled artillery systems, strengthening both Warsaw’s battlefield capabilities and its independence from foreign suppliers. The development represents a cornerstone of Poland’s defense modernization and industrial resilience strategy.
