In a significant move to bolster defense innovation, the UK and Australia have embarked on a collaborative venture targeting low-cost, highly adaptable missile sub-systems. The project will see the UK’s Modular Weapons Testbed combined with Australia’s SHARKTOOTH program, which is working on an advanced missile platform built around the principle of modularity.

SHARKTOOTH allows for “plug-and-launch” integration, where warfighters can assemble weapons by snapping in required components such as guidance packages, kinetic or non-kinetic warheads, advanced sensors, and propulsion units. This concept reduces both logistical burden and development costs, enabling rapid tailoring of missiles to specific tactical scenarios.

The partnership demonstrates a strategic alignment between the two allies, supporting joint doctrine evolution and improved supply chain resilience. It reflects a broader trend toward multi-domain operational flexibility and allied technology collation.
