Babcock is expanding cooperation with Danish industry through three agreements focused on autonomous systems, naval integration, and maritime equipment. The arrangements were announced at DALO Industry Days and involve STORMBORN, CUBEDIN, and SH Group. The partnerships are designed to investigate technologies that could support future fleets made up of both crewed warships and unmanned platforms. This approach could allow naval forces to distribute sensors and other mission capabilities across a wider group of systems.Under its agreement with STORMBORN, Babcock will examine the integration of autonomous technologies into broader naval programs. The companies will consider how crewed and uncrewed vessels can exchange information and operate together effectively.CUBEDIN will work with Babcock on standardized interfaces for naval platforms. Common physical and digital connections could simplify the integration of new mission systems and sensors throughout a ship’s service life. The partnership with SH Group will focus on naval platform equipment and related systems. Babcock said the cooperation could provide opportunities for Danish suppliers to participate in domestic and international shipbuilding programs. All three agreements support the idea of a Hybrid Navy, where crewed warships act as command and coordination hubs for autonomous systems. Such a structure could expand surveillance and mission coverage without relying entirely on additional crewed vessels. The UK is already examining similar concepts for future Royal Navy operations. Cooperation with Denmark provides an opportunity to develop interoperable capabilities alongside a close European partner.Babcock and Denmark already have an established industrial relationship through the Arrowhead 140 design. The platform is based on Denmark’s Iver Huitfeldt-class frigates and was selected as the foundation for the British Type 31 frigate program.
