EDGE Group of the UAE and Spain’s Indra Group are set to launch a joint defense production facility in León, Spain, designed to manufacture loitering munitions and smart weapon systems. The partnership reflects a strategic effort to enhance European defense self-sufficiency and meet growing regional demand for advanced unmanned and guided systems.

The León plant will combine EDGE’s advanced defense system expertise with Indra’s industrial infrastructure, with the Spanish company committing €15–20 million ($17.4–23 million) for manufacturing expansion. The facility will provide modular capabilities for drone and smart munition production, ensuring Europe can locally supply critical technologies while reducing dependence on non-European sources.

This expansion is part of EDGE’s broader global industrial growth. In 2023, the company acquired Milrem Robotics in Estonia, marking its first major European footprint in robotics and autonomous systems. EDGE also acquired a 50 percent stake in SIATT in Brazil, expanding its R&D and manufacturing for smart weapons and missiles, including anti-ship and coastal defense solutions, and supporting local employment and technology development.

In addition, EDGE has enhanced its European network with the purchase of Swiss UAS manufacturer ANAVIA, establishing a new headquarters and drone prototyping center in Bilten. These strategic moves showcase EDGE’s focus on co-development, technology transfer, and localized production, positioning it as a key player in Europe’s efforts to build sovereign capabilities in loitering munitions, smart weapons, and unmanned systems.
