Saab has secured a 1.5-billion Swedish krona ($162.9 million) contract from Sweden’s arms procurement agency to deliver Trackfire Remote Weapon Stations with integrated counter-drone capabilities. The systems will be deployed by the Swedish Army as part of the Amphibious Battalion 2030 program, which is designed to enhance Sweden’s ability to operate in coastal and archipelago environments amid growing regional security challenges.
The Amphibious Battalion 2030 initiative aims to introduce new combat capabilities that support NATO interoperability and strengthen Sweden’s maritime defense. In addition to Trackfire RWS, the program includes the acquisition of advanced mortar boats equipped with Patria’s NEMO turret, combining indirect and direct fire capabilities to improve operational flexibility in littoral warfare.
Scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2028, the Trackfire RWS is engineered to operate effectively in dynamic combat conditions. The system can engage targets while on the move and provide 360-degree coverage against aerial and surface threats when mounted on vehicles, naval platforms, or fixed installations.
Trackfire’s stabilized sensor suite is mechanically isolated from weapon recoil, allowing operators to maintain a steady line of sight on targets throughout engagements. This capability improves response times and accuracy, particularly during fast-moving counter-drone operations.
The weapon station’s primary counter-UAS armament is the 30×113mm M230LF Bushmaster chain gun, capable of employing proximity-fused ammunition to neutralize drones. Trackfire can also be configured with a variety of additional weapon systems, including 12.7mm and 7.62mm machine guns and 40mm grenade launchers, as well as integrated electronic warfare and non-lethal effectors.
