Teledyne FLIR Defense has secured a $42.5 million OPF-L program contract from the U.S. Marine Corps to supply over 600 Rogue 1 loitering munition systems. The acquisition marks one of the most significant tactical drone orders placed by the Marine Corps in recent years and underscores a shift toward precision strike capabilities embedded at the platoon and squad level. The new systems are intended to deliver autonomous target search and long-range strike capabilities during expeditionary operations.

Under the Organic Precision Fires-Light framework, Rogue 1 systems provide Marines with a mobile loitering weapon that allows frontline units to detect, track and engage targets without depending on artillery or fixed-wing platforms. This design aligns with the Marine Corps modernization strategy, which emphasizes distributed operations and high-responsiveness against immediate battlefield threats, especially in coastal and contested maritime environments.

The order, executed as Delivery Order 3 under OPF-L, includes control stations, training equipment, and field support, with operational fielding scheduled to start in the coming summer. Rogue 1 can be deployed within minutes and features onboard sensors for reconnaissance and target confirmation. If a mission is not executed, operators can recover the air vehicle rather than expend it, making the system cost-efficient for sustained battlefield use. The latest contract confirms Teledyne FLIR’s growing role in supplying integrated drone, sensor, and strike technologies to the U.S. armed forces.
