Draganfly, a UAV manufacturer based in Saskatchewan, has secured a significant defense contract with the US Department of Defense for the supply of its Commander3 XL drones. The deal supports America’s ongoing efforts to deploy multi-functional drone platforms capable of performing ISR missions while supporting real-time task execution on the battlefield.
This agreement is a strategic milestone for Draganfly, especially following its expansion efforts, including a new facility in Tampa, Florida, aimed at strengthening partnerships across North America’s defense and security sectors. The Commander3 XL is central to this push, offering a robust combination of endurance, payload capacity, and modular integration features.
The drone supports payloads up to 10 kilograms and can be fitted with specialized gear such as optical/thermal imaging systems, LiDAR sensors, and delivery modules. It achieves a top speed of 45 mph (72 km/h) and stays airborne for up to 35 minutes unloaded. With a full payload, it can operate for approximately 20 minutes. A hybrid model featuring a Pegasus 70cc liquid-cooled engine enhances range and adaptability by supporting multiple fuel types. Engineered with foldable arms and an all-weather frame, the Commander3 XL is suited for rapid deployments in diverse environmental conditions, from light rain to snowy terrain.
