Iveco Defence Vehicles has been selected by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to lead a major effort in developing and testing robotic and autonomous systems (RAS) for future defense applications. The contract, spanning three years, will focus on concept development and live experimentation using integrated unmanned ground and aerial vehicles.
The goal of the project is to demonstrate how combined UGV and UAS platforms can be effectively employed in real-world military scenarios. These systems will operate under a shared and highly interoperable command and control framework. Iveco stated that this framework will be distributed across multiple predefined network nodes, ensuring robust communication and coordinated actions across different operational environments.
What sets this program apart is the early and sustained involvement of end-users throughout both the design and implementation phases. Military personnel and other stakeholders will contribute directly to refining operational concepts and evaluating the deployment of the technology. This collaborative approach aims to ensure that the final systems are both practical and combat-ready.
