Boeing will upgrade the C-17A’s flight deck under a newly awarded USAF contract focused on resolving avionics obsolescence and enhancing long-term sustainability. The modernization replaces aging systems with MOSA-aligned architecture, improving interoperability and ensuring affordable future upgrades. Curtiss-Wright will supply modular mission computing systems as part of the initiative. Powered by four Pratt & Whitney engines, the C-17 supports global mobility missions with a 2,420-nautical-mile range and a 45,000-foot ceiling. As the backbone of US strategic airlift across active-duty, Guard, and Reserve units, the aircraft will remain in service for decades, with successor studies beginning in 2027 and potential production around 2038.
