The United Kingdom and Turkey have signed a major defense export agreement centered on the Eurofighter Typhoon combat jet, signaling a deepening of strategic and industrial ties within the NATO alliance. The $11 billion, decade-long deal, signed by the British Prime Minister, will see 20 Eurofighter jets delivered to Turkey to enhance its air superiority capabilities.
Britain’s Ministry of Defence described the accord as a “historic fighter jet deal,” representing the largest such order in decades. The Eurofighter Typhoon, jointly produced by BAE Systems and European partners, is expected to give the Turkish Air Force a substantial boost in speed, range, and operational versatility—key to defending NATO’s southern perimeter.
The contract carries major economic benefits for the UK, securing 20,000 high-value defense jobs across its aerospace and engineering sectors. The government also confirmed that the agreement includes an option for future jet orders, offering long-term stability for Britain’s defense manufacturing base.
According to officials, the partnership not only enhances Turkey’s air combat readiness but also strengthens NATO’s regional security framework. The move underscores the UK’s growing role as a leading defense exporter and reaffirms the alliance’s commitment to maintaining technological superiority and operational readiness amid rising global tensions.
