Türkiye has revealed a historic defense partnership with Indonesia involving the sale of 48 KAAN fifth-generation fighter jets, a deal that represents the largest military export in the country’s history. The contract also emphasizes joint efforts in production engineering, technology sharing, and local assembly within Indonesia, marking a significant step for Türkiye’s defense sector as it ventures into the global fighter jet marketplace.
The KAAN jet, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) under the guidance of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), is Türkiye’s first fully indigenous fifth-generation warplane. Built for versatility and survivability in highly contested airspaces, the aircraft is capable of performing multiple roles with advanced stealth features including concealed internal weapon bays and reduced radar signature.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the KAAN boasts an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, artificial intelligence-driven avionics systems that enhance mission effectiveness, infrared search and track (IRST) sensors for enemy detection, and a comprehensive electronic warfare suite for defense and attack capabilities. This defense agreement marks a defining moment showcasing Türkiye’s advanced aerospace technology and expanding export footprint.
