Ireland is expanding its air surveillance capabilities through a French procurement arrangement covering five Thales Ground Master radars. The order includes four GM400α systems and one GM200 Multi-Mission All-in-one radar, with delivery planned for next year. Although the procurement was reported by Irish media in September, details of the specific systems were not initially made public. The GM400α provides long-range radar coverage and is packaged inside a 20-foot (6-meter) ISO container. Its integrated lifting system supports rapid deployment, while the radar has a six-second update rate. In comparison, the GM200 MM/A is a mobile 4D AESA radar that combines its radar, mast and power generator within a single 20-foot shelter, enabling truck transportation.According to Thales, the GM200 MM/A can be deployed in as little as 15 minutes and simultaneously track aerial targets operating at different altitudes. The system has also been acquired or ordered by Romania and Qatar, in addition to Ireland.
