A dispute has emerged between Switzerland and the United States regarding the final cost of 36 Lockheed Martin F-35A fighter jets. The Swiss government maintains that the fixed contract price—approximately six billion Swiss francs ($7.5 billion)—was clearly agreed upon and publicly affirmed by the U.S. embassy.

However, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency has raised concerns about unforeseen additional expenses. The agency cites high inflation in the U.S., along with increased raw material and energy prices post-pandemic, as reasons Switzerland should cover the extra costs.

Although the DSCA indicated the fixed pricing may have been misunderstood, it has yet to provide precise figures. Swiss officials have warned that accepting the revised terms could lead to additional costs ranging between $650 million and $1.3 billion, largely driven by evolving economic and geopolitical factors.
