The US Air Force is planning a communications upgrade for its HH-60W Jolly Green II combat rescue helicopters by replacing the current tactical radio with a multi-channel system capable of handling both Link 16 data and VHF/UHF voice communications simultaneously. The proposed replacement is the KOR-24A Small Tactical Terminal developed by L3Harris Technologies. The new system will allow rescue crews to maintain real-time battlefield awareness while communicating with aircraft, ground forces, and isolated personnel, improving coordination and mission effectiveness during combat search-and-rescue operations.
