The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded QinetiQ a new five-year extension to its long-standing support contract for the Royal Air Force’s Typhoon fighter jets, reinforcing the aircraft’s role as a cornerstone of the UK’s air combat capability. The deal is valued at approximately £205 million ($275 million).

Under the agreement, QinetiQ will continue providing mission-critical engineering and technical services focused on sustaining Typhoon capability, improving aircraft availability, and enhancing pilot safety. The company said the work will help minimize downtime and reduce maintenance costs, ensuring the RAF can rapidly return aircraft to operational readiness.

The contract also includes foundational technical support for the UK armed forces and international Typhoon operators. QinetiQ plans to expand the application of AI-driven and digital engineering technologies, supported by a £10 million investment, to accelerate sustainment activities across the Typhoon fleet and other defence programs. These efforts will leverage collaborations with British artificial intelligence and digital engineering firms.

Delivery will be managed through the Aurora Engineering Delivery Partnership, a consortium led by QinetiQ and supported by major engineering firms including Atkins, BMT, Frazer-Nash, and KBR. The Eurofighter Typhoon remains the RAF’s principal air-defence platform and a key expeditionary asset, with service life expected to extend into the 2040s alongside the UK’s growing F-35 Lightning II force.
