The Philippine Air Force has accepted five more S-70i Black Hawk helicopters, reinforcing its airlift and rapid-response capabilities, as part of an ongoing fleet modernization program. The turnover ceremony took place at Villamor Air Base, where the aircraft were officially inducted along with eight M134-H Gatling machine guns intended to equip the newly delivered rotorcraft.

The helicopters represent the fifth batch under a 32-unit acquisition contract signed in 2022 with PZL Mielec, Lockheed Martin’s Polish helicopter manufacturing arm. With the latest induction, the PAF has received 25 helicopters to date, following staggered deliveries throughout 2024 and 2025. The final batch of aircraft is scheduled for delivery in the coming months, completing the procurement.

Upon completion of deliveries, the new aircraft will supplement the PAF’s 15 previously acquired S-70i Black Hawks, expanding the total fleet to 47 helicopters. The S-70i Black Hawk is widely regarded as a versatile, combat-proven platform, supporting missions ranging from tactical troop insertion and cargo lift to search and rescue and disaster relief, which are particularly critical for the Philippines’ disaster-prone geography.

Designed for demanding operations, the S-70i features a 12.58-foot cabin, carries a maximum payload of nearly 10,000 kilograms, and operates at speeds of up to 160 knots. The expanded Black Hawk fleet significantly enhances the PAF’s operational reach, mobility, and humanitarian response capability. Maintenance and sustainment are handled locally through Lockheed Martin and Asian Aerospace, ensuring long-term support for the growing helicopter force.
