The U.S. State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Australia for F/A-18F and EA-18G sustainment support, valued at approximately $2.0 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has officially notified Congress of the planned sale.
Under the proposed package, Australia would acquire 60 Joint Tactical Terminal – Transceivers, 40 Advanced Electronic Warfare Systems, and 24 Next Generation Electronic Attack Units, along with non-MDE items such as encryption equipment, countermeasure systems, spare parts, mission software, hardware updates, training, and logistical support services.
This sale supports U.S. foreign policy objectives by reinforcing Australia’s defense capability and strengthening the strategic partnership in the Western Pacific. It will enhance Australia’s ability to address future security challenges and operate effectively in coalition missions.
The transaction will not shift the military balance in the region. The Boeing Company will be the primary contractor. No offset agreements are currently tied to this sale.
The agreement will require temporary deployment of 25 U.S. government and 15 contractor personnel to Australia for program management and technical support. There is no expected negative impact on U.S. defense readiness.
The cost estimate provided represents the maximum potential value and may be adjusted based on final contract details and budget allocations.
