The Royal New Zealand Air Force has finalized a complete upgrade of its NH90 helicopter fleet, involving major enhancements to its navigation software, tracking capabilities, and automated landing systems.
The most notable feature of the upgrade is an enhanced interoperability protocol, which significantly improves identification of friendly units using advanced IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) radar tech. Additionally, compliance with ADS-B OUT broadcasting was achieved, aligning with national aviation standards for transparent aircraft tracking.
Crucially, pilots can now count on upgraded flight automation that allows the NH90 to maintain hover down to the ground, a significant operational improvement from the prior 5-meter (15-foot) hover ceiling.
