The Brazilian Army has received its first UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter from Lockheed Martin, initiating deliveries under a 12-unit order finalized in 2024. The milestone delivery underscores Brazil’s commitment to upgrading its rotary-wing capabilities to address evolving operational needs across military, humanitarian, and disaster-response missions.
Lockheed Martin stated that the new Black Hawks will be deployed for tactical logistics, troop movement, aeromedical evacuation, and search-and-rescue operations, significantly expanding the Army’s operational reach. The delivery also highlights the enduring partnership between Brazil and Sikorsky, which has supported the country’s Black Hawk fleet for more than 25 years, ensuring sustained readiness and mission availability.
The UH-60M induction enhances joint-force interoperability, aligning with the UH-60L variants already in service with the Brazilian Air Force. This common platform approach strengthens coordination across services while reinforcing Brazil’s confidence in the Black Hawk’s proven performance in demanding environments.
In terms of capability, the UH-60M can transport 11 fully equipped soldiers, carry heavy internal and external payloads, and operate with a diverse weapons suite, including M240 and M134 machine guns, GAU-19 Gatling guns, Hydra rockets, Hellfire and Stinger missiles. Powered by 1,900-horsepower GE T700 engines, the helicopter delivers a top speed of 160 knots, a 19,000-foot service ceiling, and long-range endurance suitable for Brazil’s wide operational landscape.
