The US Navy has accepted its 350th MH-60R Seahawk helicopter, strengthening its maritime aviation fleet and highlighting the sustained production success of Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky division. The aircraft was produced at the company’s Owego facility in New York and transferred to HSM-41, the navy’s primary Seahawk training squadron.
As part of the US Pacific Fleet, HSM-41 is tasked with training naval aviators and aircrew to operate the MH-60R, which has become the backbone of US Navy helicopter operations for anti-submarine and surface warfare missions. The platform has played a vital role in carrier strike group protection and maritime security operations worldwide.
The MH-60R Seahawk is equipped with a sophisticated open-systems avionics architecture, combining advanced sensors, electronic warfare capabilities, tactical data links, and precision weapons. Its loadout includes Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and MK 54 torpedoes, enabling it to engage submarines, fast attack craft, and aerial threats.
Since entering service in 2006, the helicopter has demonstrated operational flexibility across multiple theaters. Recent deployments have seen the MH-60R actively counter enemy unmanned aerial systems and hostile maritime threats in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. With a projected service life extending into the 2050s, the Seahawk remains a long-term asset not only for the US Navy but also for international operators including Australia, India, Greece, and Spain.
