The Italian Air Force will soon receive two Gulfstream G550 jets from L3Harris, modified to carry out advanced electromagnetic warfare missions under a new $300-million contract. These aircraft will be equipped with systems designed to jam and disrupt enemy electronic systems over long distances, including communications, radar, and navigation channels. This capability is crucial for neutralizing threats and gaining electronic superiority during complex military operations.
Once delivered, the G550s will join Italy’s elite special mission fleet alongside platforms such as the Joint Airborne Multi-Mission Multi-Sensor System (JAMMS), which combines multiple sensors and electronic warfare tools to conduct a broad range of strategic missions. The integration of these new electronic warfare aircraft enhances Italy’s ability to control the electromagnetic spectrum and execute offensive and defensive operations within contested environments.
L3Harris’s expertise in multi-mission aircraft programs extends globally, with ongoing projects supporting military customers in countries like the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, and South Korea. The company’s continued innovation in electronic warfare solutions strengthens allied air forces’ operational reach and survivability in rapidly evolving electronic threat landscapes, cementing L3Harris as a key player in modern aerospace warfare.
