BAE Systems has been selected by Korea Aerospace Industries to supply a next-generation Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) solution for the KF-21 Boramae fighter, under a contract valued at $11 million. The agreement marks a key step in enhancing the aircraft’s ability to operate effectively alongside allied air forces while maintaining secure target identification in high-threat environments.
As part of the deal, BAE will provide its AN/APX-127(V)1 Combined Interrogator Transponder, a system purpose-built for tactical aircraft and optimized for modern air combat requirements. Integration activities will take place at BAE Systems’ sites in New York and Texas, with deliveries and certification planned for 2026.
The upgraded IFF system leverages an open and modular architecture, enabling rapid software updates and lowering long-term sustainment costs. It also meets stringent anti-jamming, encryption, and cybersecurity standards, ensuring reliable performance in contested electromagnetic environments.
Replacing the legacy AN/APX-126(V) IFF without requiring aircraft modifications, the AN/APX-127(V)1 is Mark XIIB certified and supports secure Mode 5 and Mode S operations. Enhanced receive channels allow the passive detection of friendly aircraft identification signals, including Mode 5 Level 2 and ADS-B In, providing pilots with improved situational awareness during coalition operations and dense airspace missions.
