During a high-profile visit to Nigeria by the Indian Prime Minister, the two nations took a significant step toward strengthening cooperation in defense, economic development, and food security. On November 12, a series of agreements were signed, solidifying the growing partnership between India and Nigeria.A key highlight of the visit was India’s offer of the LCA-Tejas Mk1A fighter jet to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as part of a broader initiative to enhance Nigeria’s air combat capabilities. To support this, India has extended a USD 200 million Line of Credit to Nigeria, facilitating the procurement of the Tejas Mk1A from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).The Nigerian Air Force is seeking to replace its ageing fleet of Chengdu F-7Nl fighter jets, which are increasingly outdated in the context of modern aerial warfare. The LCA-Tejas Mk1A, a state-of-the-art single-engine multi-role combat aircraft, offers a more advanced and cost-effective alternative, underscoring India’s commitment to defense collaboration with Nigeria.
