General Atomics AeroTec Systems is strengthening its maritime aviation portfolio with the introduction of the Do228 NXT aircraft, a platform tailored for high-tempo maritime patrol and border security missions. Designed to perform reliably in challenging operational environments, the aircraft’s short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability allows deployment from isolated airstrips and forward operating locations.

The Do228 NXT is equipped with a state-of-the-art cockpit, combining autopilot functionality with advanced navigation, dual air data systems, and enhanced situational awareness tools. Integrated terrain warning and collision avoidance systems improve flight safety while enabling crews to focus on mission execution in congested or low-visibility airspace.

With dimensions of 16.56 meters in length and a wingspan of 16.97 meters, the aircraft offers sufficient space for modular payload integration, supporting a wide range of mission configurations. The twin Honeywell TPE331-10 engines deliver strong performance, allowing the aircraft to reach 25,000 feet and cruise at speeds of up to 240 knots, making it suitable for long-duration maritime operations.

As maritime and border threats evolve, the Do228 NXT provides adaptable capabilities for coastal surveillance, undersea infrastructure protection, naval intelligence gathering, and environmental monitoring. The inclusion of an in-flight roller door enables safe aerial deployment of rescue gear during search-and-rescue missions. The aircraft will be officially showcased at Navy Tech 2026 in Sweden, highlighting its role in future naval and coastal security operations.
