The first official rendering of Boeing’s F/A-XX fighter has been released, showcasing a carrier-based design that many believe draws inspiration from the US Air Force’s F-47 jet. The unveiling provides rare insight into Boeing’s development approach for the Navy’s sixth-generation aircraft.
In the concept image, the fighter is seen in flight over a US Navy aircraft carrier. Portions of the plane remain obscured by cloud formations, leaving observers questioning whether features such as canards or distinct wingtip structures are part of the final configuration. Notably, the design does not display a vertical tail.
A closer look reveals that the cockpit bears a strong resemblance to that of the F-47, while the naval version’s radome is visibly smaller than the wider nose section found on its air force equivalent. These distinctions may reflect the unique demands of carrier operations and naval mission requirements.
By releasing this concept, Boeing has offered both the defense community and the public a preview of what could become the centerpiece of the Navy’s future air wing, signaling its commitment to pushing the boundaries of stealth and aerodynamics.
