Germany’s parliament has approved a series of seven key defense procurement programs designed to reinforce both national security and NATO interoperability. Central to the package is a €3.75-billion ($4.36 billion) deal to acquire 20 Tranche 5 Eurofighter jets, representing a major step in modernizing the German Air Force’s combat capabilities.

The newly ordered fighters will replace the aging Tornado ECR aircraft in the suppression of enemy air defenses role. Outfitted with cutting-edge E-Scan AESA radar systems, the Tranche 5 Eurofighters will deliver improved target detection, enhanced electronic protection, and superior mission versatility in complex air combat environments.

The comprehensive contract, financed under the regular defense budget, also includes engines, spare components, and logistics support. According to the approved schedule, deliveries are expected to take place between 2031 and 2034, ensuring a smooth transition from the legacy Tornado fleet.

In parallel, the Bundestag has sanctioned €412 million ($480 million) to upgrade flight and tactical simulators used for training and license renewal. This initiative, supported by both the Bundeswehr’s special fund and annual defense allocations, will enable German pilots to train with state-of-the-art simulation systems that mirror real combat conditions.
